This painting had a surprise of its own — it naturally transformed into a diptych. This painting is in honor of the 2026 reopening of Highway 1 through Big Sur after three long years.
The dramatic coastline, resilience of the land, and emotional return to this iconic stretch of California inspired the expansion into two panels.
This alla prima diptych holds Big Sur at the meeting of earth and water. Rugged cliffs and the ocean converge in a quiet meditation on the wild, untamed beauty of California’s Central Coast.
